Fault code P046C64
On a 2015 Volvo D13 engine, code P046C64 stands for EGR Differential Pressure Sensor - Circuit Range/Performance. [1, 2] This sensor—commonly called the Delta P sensor—measures the pressure drop across the EGR mixing chamber to help the ECM calculate exactly how much exhaust gas is recirculating into the engine. The -64 suffix indicates a signal plausibility error, meaning the reading doesn't line up with what the ECM expects to see. [2] Given the severe wiring harness damage you just found on the nearby turbo actuator, this EGR code is almost certainly related to that same harness issue. The EGR Delta P sensor and the VGT Turbo Actuator share the exact same physical wiring trunk on the engine block. ------------------------------ ## 🔍 Check These 3 Culprits Immediately## 1. More Harness Chafing (Highly Likely) Since you found broken wires on the actuator, look further down that exact same plastic wire loom. The wires for the EGR Differential Pressure Sensor travel inside that exact same harness bundle. * * Pull the loom back and check if the sensor wires are also pinched, rubbed through, or broken. * A shorted wire inside that harness bundle will corrupt the 5V reference signal shared by both the turbo actuator and the EGR sensor, throwing off the readings for both. * ## 2. Plugged or Sooted Sensor Tubes If the wiring looks perfectly fine, the sensor might simply be blinded by exhaust soot. * * Follow the metal sensing lines that run from the EGR pipe up to the sensor plastic body. * Over time, carbon build-up fills these tubes and plugs them solid, freezing the pressure readings and triggering code P046C64. * The Fix: Remove the sensor and use compressed air or brake cleaner to blow out the metal sensing tubes. [3] * ## 3. Failed Delta P Sensor If the wires are repaired, the tubes are clean, and the code stays active, the sensor itself has suffered an internal failure. [3, 4] * * Look at the plastic housing of the sensor. If it looks blistered or warped, heat has ruined it, and it will need to be replaced. * ------------------------------ ## 🛠️ Next Steps 1. Finish splicing your broken actuator wires properly. 2. Carefully inspect the rest of that shared wire bundle for hidden breaks affecting this EGR sensor. 3. Turn the truck key on, clear the codes, and see if P046C64 clears out alongside the turbo communication error.
